Locked outside in a faded plaid party
With a stolen egg to fry on the sidewalk
Palm Springs, land of movie stars and palm trees
And a little girl wandering sand dunes
Picking verbenas, fingers sticky.
Nothing and more of nothing
Crushing sown like summer heat.
In an air conditioned house
The something looms
Cold and enigmatic.
A puzzle with too many pieces.
This is her favorite dress.
Years later, avoidance
Is still her enemy-friend
Her Higher Power waits.
