Bigger Than Us Both

What's right is bigger than us both.
Love's foundation is so much larger than the plans we lay upon it.

Taller and heavier voices, minds, and emotion flow into the same good pool of effort we each make.

Mixed among the waters is the grit of many beating hearts.
Warmly formed of all things, a wall becomes a mountain,
upon which we climb to survey the community of truth and faith,
our common humanity.

Right Answers

There are no right answers
to our many questions.

But the solutions are myriad;
as positive or poor
as our choices make them.

Hungry Baton

Does the tree feel the subtle squeeze
of the caterpillar's feet,
as half its body reaches like a tentacle
from the end of a pillaged limb?

"Where, where, where,"
it signals with a searching, empty grasp.

it furrily conducts
to a symphony of pillowy clouds.

Late Summer

In early summer the bugs are few
and the harvest small.

The yellow gourd quickly grows
before the squash borer matures.

A butterfly tests its rippled wings
and is soon eaten.

Late summer brings tastes
of a more mature and hardy kind

A sign of Courage

A sign of courage
is sometimes no more words,
no more debate, and no more effort than acceptance.

We will adjust, or boil in the pot of our own thought
until our hearts burn dry.

Moisture's Influence

Creating a mindful cleansing
from the falling rain,
dripping gutters,
and subtle changes in wind and force,
my ear rests a moment
in the timeless bath
of moisture's influence.
